Disc Golf & the Dog Park

Reedy Creek's 18-hole disc golf course is one of the oldest in Charlotte and among its most reviewed: heavily wooded, with tight fairways, elevation changes, creek crossings and blind holes. Next door, a fenced dog park lets dogs run off leash.

What's here

  • An 18-hole disc golf course with holes from about 180 to more than 500 feet.
  • Mostly par 3s with a few challenging par 4s.
  • Tight wooded fairways, elevation, creeks and blind holes.
  • A fenced off-leash dog park.

Good to know

Disc golf is free. Bring extra discs: the woods and creeks claim plenty. In the dog park, dogs must be vaccinated and under their owner's watch; outside it, keep dogs leashed.

The disc golf course

Reedy Creek's course is a classic wooded layout: tight fairways through the trees, elevation changes, creek carries and blind holes where you throw on faith. Holes range from about 180 feet to more than 500, mostly par 3s with a few demanding par 4s. It's one of the most-reviewed courses in the area, with thousands of ratings on UDisc averaging about 4.4 stars.

Playing it well

Accuracy beats distance here: a controllable midrange will serve you better than a big driver on most holes. Walk the blind holes the first time to see where the basket is. Weekend mornings are busy; weekday afternoons are quieter. Keep an eye out for walkers near the fairways.

The dog park

The park's fenced dog park gives dogs room to run off leash. Bring water, a ball and bags, and watch your dog the whole time. Outside the fenced area, Mecklenburg County requires dogs to be leashed.

Making a day of it

Disc golf, the dog park, the playgrounds and the picnic shelters are all in the front of the park, so a group can split up and meet for lunch. Afterward, walk a short loop in the preserve to cool off in the shade.

Disc golf etiquette

Let faster groups play through, wait until fairways are clear of walkers, and never throw toward people on nearby trails or paths. Pack out trash and broken discs, and leave the woods as you found them; the course depends on the trees that make it challenging.
