Fishing

The lakeside fishing pier and the park's ponds are easy places to fish with kids, close to parking and restrooms. North Carolina requires an inland fishing license for anglers 16 and older, and state rules apply. Bring your own gear, and pack out line and hooks to protect the birds and turtles that share the ponds.

Fields and courts

Reedy Creek has facilities for nearly every sport: basketball, tennis, softball, soccer, volleyball and horseshoes, plus a cricket pitch. Fields are used by leagues and can be reserved through the county; when they're open, pickup games are welcome.

Picnics and playgrounds

Indoor and outdoor picnic facilities make the park a popular spot for birthdays and family reunions, and benches are scattered along the paths. Several playgrounds serve different ages, in addition to the nature play area by the nature center. Reserve shelters through Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation for weekends.

The community garden

A community garden gives neighbors plots to grow vegetables and flowers. It's a reminder that Reedy Creek is a neighborhood park as well as a nature preserve; stroll by in summer to see what's growing, but leave the harvest to the gardeners.
